Academic knowledge gains value when it is shared with a wider community. Researchers, educators, postgraduate students, and professionals often develop useful ideas, experiences, and insights that may benefit others beyond their immediate institutional or professional settings. However, not every contribution needs to take the form of a conventional journal article or formal academic publication.

WeCWIIS provides two avenues for sharing suitable academic and educational content: Publication and Publicity. Publication allows contributors to share longer-form articles as guest authors, while publicity provides a channel to disseminate relevant news and information in language and education. Both forms of communication support knowledge sharing and broader engagement with readers interested in educational and language-related developments.

A. Publication

WeCWIIS provides an opportunity for contributors to publish original articles through the WeCWIIS blog as Guest Authors. Guest articles are intended to share knowledge, professional experiences, educational practices, reflections, research-informed discussions, and relevant ideas in the fields of language and education. The publication process consists of three main stages: pre-submission, submission, and post-submission.

a. Pre-submission

Before preparing an article for submission, contributors should ensure that the proposed topic is relevant to the general areas of language and education. Suitable contributions may address areas such as:

  • language learning and teaching;

  • academic English;

  • academic writing;

  • postgraduate education;

  • educational technology;

  • instructional design;

  • educational innovation;

  • research and professional development;

  • teaching and learning practices;

  • artificial intelligence in education;

  • Open Educational Resources;

  • WeCWI-related developments; and

  • other relevant language- or education-related topics.

Articles should be written primarily to share knowledge, experiences, perspectives, or educational practices. Reviews and sales-oriented content are not accepted as Guest Author articles. Product reviews, direct promotional materials, advertorials, and sales pitches should therefore not be submitted under the Publication category. Accepted contributions are published on the WeCWIIS blog under the Guest Author category.

b. Submission

Submitted articles must meet several basic requirements to maintain consistency and quality across the WeCWIIS blog.

The article should be:

  • unique and unpublished;

  • written in British English;

  • between 2,000 and 3,000 words;

  • organised with appropriate headings and subheadings;

  • written using clear and relatively short paragraphs; and

  • supported by references in APA 7th edition where sources are cited.

The article should be written in an essay format rather than as a collection of disconnected notes or presentation points. Headings and subheadings may be used to organise the discussion and improve readability. Writers are encouraged to develop their ideas through explanation, examples, observations, professional experiences, or relevant research where appropriate. Images and videos may also be included when they support the article's content.

Any visual or multimedia material used should have the appropriate permission, acknowledgement, citation, or credit. Contributors should ensure that the manuscript has been reviewed carefully before submission, particularly for language accuracy, organisation, consistency, and completeness. The completed article should be submitted in Microsoft Word format by email to: admin@wecwi.com. The final submission should include the author's:

  • full name;

  • title or designation;

  • institutional or organisational affiliation; and

  • profile photograph.

c. Post-submission

Following submission, the article will be reviewed to determine its suitability for publication on the WeCWIIS blog. The review may consider:

  • relevance to language or education;

  • originality;

  • quality of content;

  • clarity of presentation;

  • language accuracy;

  • overall organisation; and

  • compliance with the submission requirements.

Authors will normally receive a notification within one week regarding the outcome of the submission. For accepted articles, the publication process will normally be completed within two weeks. Reasonable editorial amendments may be made where necessary to improve language accuracy, clarity, consistency, presentation, or online formatting while maintaining the intended meaning of the author's work.

Once published, the article becomes part of the WeCWIIS Guest Author collection. Authors should not republish the published article elsewhere without prior consent from WeCWIIS. This requirement helps clarify the article's publication status and online distribution.

B. Publicity

Academic communication also includes the timely sharing of news, developments, programmes, events, and other information that may be useful to the wider educational community. The WeCWIIS Publicity channel provides a way to share relevant news related to language and education.

a. News

WeCWIIS News provides a platform to share relevant information with readers interested in language and educational developments.

Suitable news may include:

  • academic announcements;

  • educational programmes;

  • conferences;

  • seminars;

  • workshops;

  • webinars;

  • research activities;

  • publication announcements;

  • teaching and learning initiatives;

  • educational innovations;

  • professional development activities;

  • postgraduate activities;

  • calls for participation;

  • calls for papers; and

  • other relevant language- and education-related developments.

News submissions should contain clear and accurate information so that readers can understand the nature and purpose of the announcement.

Where relevant, a submission may include:

  • event title;

  • organiser;

  • date and time;

  • venue or online platform;

  • target participants;

  • programme information;

  • registration details;

  • official links; and

  • supporting images or posters.

The person or organisation submitting the information remains responsible for ensuring that names, dates, links, programme details, and other factual information are accurate and up to date. Publicity through WeCWIIS is intended primarily for language- and education-related information, not general commercial advertising.

C. Responsibility

Whether content is submitted for publication or publicity, contributors are expected to maintain appropriate professional and ethical standards.

Submitted materials should:

  • contain accurate information;

  • acknowledge sources appropriately;

  • respect copyright and intellectual property;

  • avoid fabricated or misleading claims;

  • use images and multimedia materials appropriately;

  • protect confidential or personal information where relevant; and

  • remain consistent with the educational and professional focus of WeCWIIS.

Contributors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, permissions, and intellectual content of their submissions. Editorial review by WeCWIIS is intended to support clarity and presentation and does not transfer responsibility for the substantive content from the contributor to WeCWIIS.

D. Sharing through WeCWIIS

Publication and Publicity serve different but complementary purposes. Publication provides a space for individuals to contribute substantial written discussions as Guest Authors. These articles allow contributors to share ideas, professional practices, educational experiences, research-informed perspectives, and reflections in greater depth.

Publicity provides a more direct channel for sharing timely news and announcements relevant to the language and education community. Together, these channels support the wider dissemination of educational knowledge and information through the WeCWIIS platform.
