Tips for Analysing Critically an Argumentative Article

Updated: Mar 27

What is an argumentative article? In this type of article, you will find arguments supported by facts, data, and examples about both sides of an issue, which depends on the author and which side he or she supports the most. A written article analysis is a critical analysis of the information and arguments stated in an argumentative article.

To analyse critically the text, here are some tips for you to take note of. These include the issue, purpose, tone, intended audience, arguments, points of view, assumptions, main ideas (stated and implied), supporting details (types, relevance, consistency, objectivity, completeness, validity, and credibility), reasoning processes (inductive and deductive) as well as making inference and conclusion.

Analysing Tips Solutions

  1. Identify the issue in a text.

  2. Determine the arguments or points of view in a text.

  3. Recognise the types of supporting details in a text.

Writing An Excellent Article Analysis Solutions

An excellently written article analysis states the issue, arguments, and points of view critically and logically. Supporting details are evaluated meaningfully, while the conclusion reached is sound and valid, backed by very well-developed reasoning.

Besides, the writer must be able to demonstrate an excellent command of the language, which can convey meaning effectively in the writing and make it a pleasure to read. This can be achieved by showing a wide range of vocabulary, the precise choice of words, and a wide variety of sentence structures with virtually no errors in the elementary structure and minimal errors in grammar, spelling, capitalisation, and punctuation.

In terms of organisation, the writer has to construct the paragraph appropriately with ideas logically sequenced and coherently written. Transitions within and between paragraphs flow smoothly using various cohesive devices. Below is a sample of an argumentative article.

Euthanasia is Inhuman

A subject that has been disputed more ever since medical technology has dramatically improved is Euthanasia. Euthanasia is assisted suicide, or it could be ending a patient's suffering by letting him die. Medical technology is advancing so fast euthanasia is not needed to be a practice in today's society. Moreover, it is inhuman and against the law.

Many people with incurable diseases have thought about euthanasia. Their families do not want them to go through the pain any longer. One reason why these families should not consider euthanasia is because medical technology is advancing at an alarming rate. Diseases can be cured now that could not have been cured just a few years ago. The way things are going technology would probably find a cure for the patient's illness soon. Families or individuals thinking about euthanasia should get all the facts first about the research being done on the particular illness that has invaded a member of their family. Think twice before making any serious decisions.

Euthanasia is an inhuman way of taking care of a difficult problem. Some people might say that it is inhuman to have someone suffer through the pain of his or her illness. Many of the families have a harder time dealing with the pain than the actual victim does. The families would like to ease their own pain along with the victim's pain. It is not inhuman to keep someone alive as long as humanly possible. If a cure is found, then the victim could go on to live a long life. It would be inhuman to not let the victim have the chance to live the rest of his life. Human life is the most beautiful thing on the face of the earth or anywhere, and people should be given a chance to experience beauty as long as possible.

Some people want to die for one reason or another. These people go to someone and ask him or her to help them die. Most of the victims of diseases that would result in them wanting to die are in an unstable condition and are not fit to make these major decisions. A paper I read off the internet said: "Contrary to the assumptions of many in the public, a scientific study of the people with terminal illness published in the American Journal of Psychiatry found that fewer than one in four expressed a wish to die, and all those who did had clinically diagnosable depression." Sometimes they have a family member decide for them. The whole family should sit down with a trained psychiatrist and sort through their mental trauma. They need help to realize that death is not the answer. The internet paper goes on to say "The humane response is to mobilize psychiatric and social service resources to address the problems that led to would-be suicide."

Euthanasia has become illegal in some states. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Washington said "aiding a person who wishes to end his life constitutes a criminal act and subjects the aider to the possibility of a lengthy term of imprisonment, even if the recipient of the aid is a terminally ill, competent adult and the aider is a licensed physician who is providing medical assistance at the request of the patient." The most famous person associated with assisted suicide is Dr Jack Kevorkian. He has been accused and arrested over and over again in Michigan for assisting people with committing suicide. Another law euthanasia break is divine law. The Declaration on Euthanasia says "it is a question of the violation of the divine law, an offence against the dignity of the human person, a crime against life, and an attack on humanity." The divine law is considered by many the most important law. These laws need to be followed very carefully.

Euthanasia is an easy way out of the pains of life. It should be banned everywhere because it goes against all the morals of today's society. It has been and probably will be discussed for a long time. People have the right to live a long life and no one can take that away from them.
